When categories are loaded by the frontend, the parent category is
looked up by ID and the `parentCategory` is set with the result. If the
categories returned are not in order, the parent category may miss.
Also, remove experimental setting and simply use top_menu for feature detection
This means that when people eventually enable the hot top menu, there will
be topics in it

The parent category needs to be serialized before the child category
because they are parsed in order. Otherwise the client will not build
the parent-child relationship correctly.
At this moment, this feature is under a site setting named
lazy_load_categories.
In the future, categories will no longer be preloaded through site data.
This commit add information about categories in topic list and ensures
that data is used to display topic list items.
Parent categories are serialized too because they are necessary to
render {{category-link}}.
When preloading topic_list data we were giving it a 'preload key' which was loosely based on the parameters of the list. However, it did not include all parameters, and mismatches between client/server-side logic would cause the preloaded data to be ignored.
This commit simplifies things by using a single key for all topic_list preloading. This works on the assumption that "The first topic_list the JS app will load is the one which was preloaded". That assumption also existed to some extent in the old design, so we don't expect any regressions here.
We have not used anything related to bookmarks for PostAction
or UserAction records since 2020, bookmarks are their own thing
now. Deleting all this is just cleaning up old cruft.
This can be used to change the list of topic posters. For example,
discourse-solved can use this to move the user who posted the solution
after the original poster.
When transitioning from a tag topic list e.g. /tag/alerts
to the / route the topic list was not reloaded because the
same preload key was used for both lists (topic_list_latest).
The topic list was only reloaded when clicking on the / route
a second time because then it is forced to reload.
In the topic list adapter, we call `PreloadStore.getAndRemove` to
get the topic lists:
534777f5fd/app/assets/javascripts/discourse/app/adapters/topic-list.js (L34-L41)
Now instead of both / and /tag/alerts sharing the same preload
key of `topic_list_latest`, the tag has a key of `topic_list_tag/alerts/l/latest`
This is a try to simplify logic around dismiss new topics to have one solution to work in all places - dismiss all-new, dismiss new in a specific category or even in a specific tag.
* FIX: 'false' value was treated as a truthy value
For example, latest.json?no_subcategories=false used to have set
no_subcategories to the string value of 'false', which is not false.
* DEV: Remove dead code
* FIX: Redirect to /none under the right conditions
These conditions are:
- neither /all or /none present
- only for default filter
* FIX: Build correct topic list filter
/none was never added to the topic list filter
* FIX: Do not show count for subcategories if 'none' category
* FIX: preload_key must contain /none if no_subcategories
Previously thumbnails were only preloaded for queries using `TopicQuery#default_results`, which meant that requests for PM topic lists would lead to N+1 queries.
This commit moves the preloading into TopicList#load_topics, along with other similar preloads (e.g. plugin custom fields)
The direct call to `ActiveRecord::Associations::Preloader#preload` is necessary because `@topics` can be an array, not an `ActiveRecord::Relation`
The server and client used two different formats for preload keys. The
server was using 'topic_list_c/SLUG/l/latest', but the client was using
'topic_list_c/SLUG/ID/l/latest'.
This commit is an addition to 374534f00e.
Zeitwerk simplifies working with dependencies in dev and makes it easier reloading class chains.
We no longer need to use Rails "require_dependency" anywhere and instead can just use standard
Ruby patterns to require files.
This is a far reaching change and we expect some followups here.
* Revert "Revert "FEATURE: Publish read state on group messages. (#7989) [Undo revert] (#8024)""
This reverts commit 36425eb9f0.
* Fix: Show who read only if the attribute is enabled
* PERF: Precalculate the last post readed by a group member
* Use book-reader icon instear of far-eye
* FIX: update topic groups correctly
* DEV: Tidy up read indicator update on write
* Reenable: "FEATURE: Publish read state on group messages. (#7989)"
This reverts commit 67f5cc1ce8.
* FIX: Read indicator only appears when the group setting is enabled
* Enable or disable read state based on group attribute
* When read state needs to be published, the minimum unread count is calculated in the topic query. This way, we can know if someone reads the last post
* The option can be enabled/disabled from the UI
* The read indicator will live-updated using message bus
* Show read indicator on every post
* The read indicator now shows read count and can be expanded to see user avatars
* Read count gets updated everytime someone reads a message
* Simplify topic-list read indicator logic
* Unsubscribe from message bus on willDestroyElement, removed unnecesarry values from post-menu, and added a comment to explain where does minimum_unread_count comes from
This reduces chances of errors where consumers of strings mutate inputs
and reduces memory usage of the app.
Test suite passes now, but there may be some stuff left, so we will run
a few sites on a branch prior to merging
This feature can be enabled by choosing a destination for the
`shared drafts category` site setting.
* Staff members can create shared drafts, choosing a destination
category for the topic when it is published.
* Shared Drafts can be viewed in their category, or above the
topic list for the destination category where it will end up.
* When the shared draft is ready, it can be published to the
appropriate category by clicking a button on the topic view.
* When published, Drafts change their timestamps to the current
time, and any edits to the original post are removed.
