a589b48f9a DEV: Display better output when inspecting service steps
This patch aims to improve the steps inspector output:
- The service class name is displayed at the top.
- Next to each step is displayed the time it took to run said step.
- Steps that didn’t run are hidden.
- `#inspect` automatically outputs the error when it is present.

UX: Hide admin header for edit/new webhook (#30194)
In this PR, we added functionality to hide the admin header for edit/new actions - https://github.com/discourse/discourse/pull/30175

To make it work properly, we have to rename `show` to `edit` which is also a more accurate name.

FIX: simplify desktop notifications behavior (#29957)
Historically the behavior of this file has been complexified to attempt to answer this use case:

A user has two tabs open, tab 1 is on a topic, tab 2 is on a chat channel. If your active tab is tab 1 and someones sends you a mention in chat. We will show a desktop notification, but in which tab the channel should open if you click it? The changes made years ago said: in tab 2.

I think this is complexifying too much this codepath and is also confusing. You might wonder why this discourse notification you clicked opened in some of your 50 tabs in the background when you had a discourse tab active currently in front of you.

Moreover, a recent change has made the notification to only happen on desktop, but all the subscription stuff was happening regardless of mobile or desktop.

PERF: auto join & leave chat channels (#29193)
Chat channels that are linked to a category can be set to automatically join users.

This is handled by subscribing to the following events

- group_destroyed
- user_seen
- user_confirmed_email
- user_added_to_group
- user_removed_from_group
- category_updated
- site_setting_changed (for `chat_allowed_groups`)

As well as a

- hourly background job (`AutoJoinUsers`)
- `CreateCategoryChannel` service
- `UpdateChannel` service

There was however two issues with the current implementation

1. We were triggering a lot of background jobs, mostly because it was decided to batch to auto join/leave into groups of 1000 users, adding a lot of stress to the system
2. We had one "class" (a service or a background job) per "event" and all of them had slightly different ways to select users to join/leave, making it hard to keep everything in sync

This PR "simply" adds two new servicesL `AutoJoinChannels` and `AutoLeaveChannels` that takes care, in an efficient way, of all the cases when users might automatically join a leave a chat channel.

Every other changes come from the fact that we're now always calling either one of those services, depending on the event that happened.

In the making of these classes, a few bugs were encountered and fixed, notably

- A user is only ever able to access chat channels if and only if they're part of a group listed in the `chat_allowed_group` site setting
- A category that has no associated "category groups" is only accessible to staff members (and not "Everyone")
- A silenced user should not be able to automatically join channels
- We should not attempt to automatically join users to deleted chat channels
- There is no need to automatically join users to chat channels that have already more than `max_chat_auto_joined_users` users

Internal - t/135259 & t/70607

* DEV: add specs for auto join/leave channels services

* DEV: less hacky specs

* DEV: no instance variables in specs

In the case where:

* Secure uploads were enabled
* Allow unsecure chat uploads was enabled
* For a site with login required enabled

When a chat upload was created, it was being marked as secure. Since
there is no provision for secure uploads in chat, this would lead to
broken uploads/images shown in the channel.

We can use the "public types" functionality of secure uploads to make
sure we never mark chat uploads as secure, and we can revisit this
whenever we get around to allowing secure uploads in chat.

41584ab40c DEV: Provide user input to services using params key
Currently in services, we don’t make a distinction between input
parameters, options and dependencies.

This can lead to user input modifying the service behavior, whereas it
was not the developer intention.

This patch addresses the issue by changing how data is provided to
services:
- `params` is now used to hold all data coming from outside (typically
  user input from a controller) and a contract will take its values from
  `params`.
- `options` is a new key to provide options to a service. This typically
  allows changing a service behavior at runtime. It is, of course,
  totally optional.
- `dependencies` is actually anything else provided to the service (like
  `guardian`) and available directly from the context object.

The `service_params` helper in controllers has been updated to reflect
those changes, so most of the existing services didn’t need specific
changes.

The options block has the same DSL as contracts, as it’s also based on
`ActiveModel`. There aren’t any validations, though. Here’s an example:
```ruby
options do
  attribute :allow_changing_hidden, :boolean, default: false
end
```
And here’s an example of how to call a service with the new keys:
```ruby
MyService.call(params: { key1: value1, … }, options: { my_option: true }, guardian:, …)
```

DEV: serialize image upload thumbnail (#29276)
Since we recently blocked accidental serialization of AR models, we are getting a 500 error in some cases with thumbnails. We can fix this by serializing the thumbnail, previously we just returned a raw OptimizedImage object.

Thumbnails are now attached to the serializer in core, therefore we no longer need to use add_to_serializer within the chat plugin to use thumbnails within chat message uploads.

FEATURE: Convert chat plugin UI to new show plugin and admin UI guidelines (#28632)
This commit converts the current chat plugin UI into the
new "show plugin" UI already followed by AI and Gamification.

In the process, I also:

* Made a dedicated /new route to create new webhooks
* Converted the webhook form to FormKit
* Made some fixes and improvements to the `AdminPluginConfigPage`, `AdminPageHeader`,
   and `AdminPageSubheader` generic components, so more plugins can
   adopt the UI guidelines too. This includes adding a header outlet so plugins
   can add action buttons to the plugin show page header.
* Fixes the submit button loading state for FormKit (by Joffrey)

5d33ea1f6e FIX: correctly load channels in chat webhooks
In 4e7a75a7ec, we moved to a single admin plugin page and added a few fields to the "plugin serializer" but we already had a proper route with the correct serializers to properly load channels.

This fixes it by removing the "add_to_serializer" calls and changed the calls to "/admin/plugins/chat.json" to the proper "/admin/plugins/chat/hooks.json" route.

71391cd40d PERF: fix performance of chat email notifications
When chat is enabled, there's a scheduled job that runs every 5 minutes to check whether we need to send a "chat summary" email to users with unread chat messages or mentions.

On Discourse with a large number of users, the query used wasn't optimal and sometimes taking minutes. Which isn't good when the query is called every 5 minutes 😬

This PR reworks the query in `Chat::Mailer.send_unread_mentions_summary`.

Instead of starting from the `users` table, it starts from the `user_chat_channel_memberships` table which is the main piece tying everything together.

The new query is mostly similar to the previous one, with some bug fixes (like ensuring the user has `allow_private_messages` enabled for direct messages) and is also slightly simpler since it doesn't keep track of the `memberships_with_unread_messages` anymore. That part has been moved to the `user_notifications.chat_summary` email method.

The `UserEmailExtension` has been deleted since that was using to N+1 update the `user_chat_channel_memberships.last_unread_mention_when_emailed_it`(quite a mouthful 😛) but that's now done directly in the `user_notifications.chat_summary` email method.

The "plat de résistance" of that PR - the `user_notifications.chat_summary` method has been re-worked for improved performances 🚀

Instead of doing everything in one query, it does 4 tiny ones.

- One to retrieve the list of unread mentions (@something) in "category" channels
- One to retrieve the list of unread messages in "direct message" channels (aka. 1-1 and group discussions)
- One to load all the chat messages for each "category" channels from the last unread mention
- One to load all the chat messages for each "direct message" channels from the last unread message

All the specs for both `Chat::Mailer` and `UserNotification.chat_summary` have been rewriten for easier comprehension and faster execution (mostly by not using chat services which makes the specs go 10x slower...)

PERF: defer loading channels (#26155)
Prior to this change we would pre-load all the user channels which making initial page load slower. This change will make them be loaded right after initial load. In the past this was not possible as the channels would have to be loaded on each page transition. However since about a year, we made the channels to be cached on the frontend and no other request will be needed.

I have decided for now to not show a loading state in the sidebar as I think it would be noise, but we can reconsider this later.

Note given we don't have the channels loaded at first certain things where harder to accomplish. The biggest UX change of this commit is that we removed all the complex logic of computing the best channel to display when you load /chat. We will now store the id of the last channel you visited and will use this id to decide which channel to show.

DEV: Single admin plugin page for consistent admin plugin UX (#26024)
This commit adds new plugin show routes (`/admin/plugins/:plugin_id`) as we move
towards every plugin having a consistent UI/landing page.

As part of this, we are introducing a consistent way for plugins
to show an inner sidebar in their config page, via a new plugin
API `register_admin_config_nav_routes`

This accepts an array of links with a label/text, and an
ember route. Once this commit is merged we can start the process
of conforming other plugins to follow this pattern, as well
as supporting a single-page version of this for simpler plugins
that don't require an inner sidebar.

DEV: chat streaming (#25736)
This commit introduces the possibility to stream messages. To allow plugins to use streaming this commit also ships a `ChatSDK` library to allow to interact with few parts of discourse chat.

ChatSDK::Message.create_with_stream(raw: "test") do |helper|
  5.times do |i|
    is_streaming = helper.stream(raw: "more #{i}")
    next if !is_streaming
    sleep 2
  end
end
```
This commit also introduces all the frontend parts:
- messages can now be marked as streaming
- when streaming their content will be updated when a new content is appended
- a special UI will be showing (a blinking indicator)
- a cancel button allows the user to stop the streaming, when cancelled `helper.stream(...)` will return `false`, and the plugin can decide exit early
DEV: Redesign chat mentions (#24752)
At the moment, when someone is mentioning a group, or using here or
all mention, we create a chat_mention record per user. What we want
instead is to have special kinds of mentions, so we can create only one
chat_mention record in such cases. This PR implements that.
Note, that such mentions will still have N related notifications, one
notification per a user. We don't expect we'll have performance
problems on the notifications side, but if at some point we do, we
should be able to solve them on the side of notifications
(notifications are handled in jobs, also some little delays with
the notifications are acceptable, so we can make sure notifications
are properly queued, and that processing of every notification is
fast enough to make delays small enough).
The preparation work for this PR was done in fbd24fa, where we make
it possible for one mention to have several related notifications.
A pretty tricky part of this PR is schema and data migration, I've explained
related details inline on the migration files.
DEV: Ability to collect stats without exposing them via API (#23933)
This adds the ability to collect stats without exposing them
among other stats via API.
The most important thing I wanted to achieve is to provide
an API where stats are not exposed by default, and a developer
has to explicitly specify that they should be
exposed (`expose_via_api: true`). Implementing an opposite
solution would be simpler, but that's less safe in terms of
potential security issues.
When working on this, I had to refactor the current solution.
I would go even further with the refactoring, but the next steps
seem to be going too far in changing the solution we have,
and that would also take more time. Two things that can be
improved in the future:
1. Data structures for holding stats can be further improved
2. Core stats are hard-coded in the About template (it's hard
to fix it without correcting data structures first, see point 1):
    63a0700d45/app/views/about/index.html.erb (L61-L101)
The most significant refactorings are:
1. Introducing the `Stat` model
2. Aligning the way the core and the plugin stats' are registered
DEV: Add meta_topic_id plugin metadata (#23838)
For the admin plugin list we want to be able to link to
a meta topic for plugins, but we have no standard way to
do this at the moment. This adds support for meta_topic_id
alongside other plugin metadata like authors, URL etc,
that gets built into a Meta topic URL in the serializer.
DEV: Revert hide_plugin for chat (#23792)
Partial revert of 97a812f022.
Calling hide_plugin also hides the Chat tab in the plugins
section of admin, which is a way plugins can add an advanced
UI (in the case of chat Export and Webhooks).
Until we decide what to do in this case, it's better to revert,
since all this will do is make the discourse-chat plugin show
up again in the plugin list and restore the missing tab.
UX: enhances chat copy features (#23770)
- Allows to copy quotes from mobile
- Allows to copy text of a message from mobile
- Allows to select messages by clicking on it when selection has started
Note this commit is also now using toasts to show a confirmation of copy, and refactors system specs helpers concerning secondary actions.
<!-- NOTE: All pull requests should have tests (rspec in Ruby, qunit in JavaScript). If your code does not include test coverage, please include an explanation of why it was omitted. -->
FEATURE: Add chat message notifications for personal chats (#23307)
This feature adds notifications for chat messages that are sent within personal chats (1:1 and personal group chats).
To prevent notification spam we make use of consolidated notifications to combine updated message information in a meaningful way that allows the receiver to quickly jump into the chat to see what they missed.
This update respects muted channels, muted and blocked users. It will only create a new notification when the user has not muted the channel and the notified user is not muting or ignoring the message sender.
FIX: ensures automation can send chat message (#23478)
It's been broken in 243793ec6e. Sadly it's not very practical to write cross plugins tests.
DEV: Migrate Chat::MessageCreator to a service (#22390)
Currently, the logic for creating a new chat message is scattered
between a controller and an “old” service.
This patch address this issue by creating a new service (using the “new”
sevice object system) encapsulating all the necessary logic.
(authorization, publishing events, etc.)
DEV: Refactor chat oneboxes (#23031)
- moves the onebox logic away from `plugin.rb` to a new `onebox_handler` lib
- splits the `discourse_chat_message` template into two: one for channels, and one for messages
- refactors the logic code slightly to send only the necessary arguments to each template
This commit shouldn't change end-user behavior.
