Upstream added a capital 'T' to the 'Translation missing' message in https://github.com/ruby-i18n/i18n/commit/c5c6e753f3. This caused our translate accelerator patch to diverge, and the change in case affected a number of our specs. This commit updates the translate accelerator to match the upstream casing, and introduces a spec to detect future divergence.
This happened only for languages other than "en" and when `I18n.t` was called without any interpolation keys. The lib still tried to interpolate keys because it interpreted the `overrides` option as interpolation key.
As an example, the lookup order for German was:
1. override for de
2. override for en
3. value from de
4. value from en
After this change the lookup order is the same as on the client:
1. override for de
2. value from de
3. override for en
4. value from en
see /t/16381
Sometimes, parts of the application pass in the locale as a string, not a symbol. This was causing the translate_accelerator to cache two versions of the locale separately: one cache for the symbol version, and one cache for the string version. For example, in a running production process:
```
irb(main):001:0> I18n.instance_variable_get(:@loaded_locales)
=> [:en, "en"]
```
This commit ensures the `locale` key is always converted to a symbol, and adds a spec to ensure the same locale cannot appear twice in `@loaded_locales`
Admins can now edit translations in different languages without having to change their locale. We display a warning when there's a fallback language set.
This reverts commit 20780a1eee.
* SECURITY: re-adds accidentally reverted commit:
03d26cd6: ensure embed_url contains valid http(s) uri
* when the merge commit e62a85cf was reverted, git chose the 2660c2e2 parent to land on
instead of the 03d26cd6 parent (which contains security fixes)
Rails calls I18n.translate during initialization and by default translation overrides are used. Database migrations would fail if the system tried to migrate from an old version that didn't have the `translation_overrides` table with all its columns yet.
This makes restoring really old backups work again. Running `DISABLE_TRANSLATION_OVERRIDES=1 rake db:migrate` will allow you to upgrade such an old database as well.
Sometimes we would like to create a base image without any DB access, this
assists in creating custom base images with custom plugins that already
includes `public/assets`
Following this change set you can run:
```
SPROCKETS_CONCURRENT=1 DONT_PRECOMPILE_CSS=1 SKIP_DB_AND_REDIS=1 RAILS_ENV=production bin/rake assets:precompile
```
Then it is straight forward to create a base image without needing a DB or
Redis.
Previously as soon as any override was defined we would regress to the slow
path for locale lookups. Additionally if `raise: true` was specified which
rails likes to add in views we would bypass the cache
The new design manages to use the fast path for many more cases
This reduces chances of errors where consumers of strings mutate inputs
and reduces memory usage of the app.
Test suite passes now, but there may be some stuff left, so we will run
a few sites on a branch prior to merging
FIX: client's translation overrides were not working when the current locale was missing a key
FIX: ExtraLocalesController.show was not properly handling multiple translations
FIX: JsLocaleHelper#output_locale was not properly handling multiple translations
FIX: ExtraLocalesController.show's spec which was randomly failing
FIX: JsLocaleHelper#output_locale was muting cached translations hashes
REFACTOR: move 'enableVerboseLocalization' to the 'localization' initializer
REFACTOR: remove unused I18n.js methods (getFallbacks, localize, parseDate, toTime, strftime, toCurrency, toPercentage)
REFACTOR: remove all I18n.pluralizationRules and instead use MessageFormat's pluralization rules
TEST: add tests for localization initializer
TEST: add tests for I18n.js
The FallbackLocaleList object tells I18n::Backend::Fallbacks what order the
languages should be attempted in. Because of the translate_accelerator patch,
the SiteSetting.default_locale is *not* guaranteed to be fully loaded after the
server starts, so a call to ensure_loaded! is added after the locale is set for
the current user.
The declarations of config.i18n.fallbacks = true in the environment files were
actually garbage, because the I18n.default_locale was
SiteSetting.default_locale, so there was nothing to fall back to. *derp*
