FEATURE: Add "+ subcategories" option back (#26035) 
This option was introduced at some point in the past, but was removed
during the work necessary to make Discourse work with a large number of
categories.

Follow up to commit 2e68ead45b.

FIX: Show "no category" in category-chooser (#25917) 
CategoryChooser component usually displays just categories, but
sometimes it can show two none values: a "no category" or Uncategorized.
This commit makes sure that these are rendered correctly.

The problem was that the "none" item was automatically inserted in the
list of options, but that should not always happen. Toggling option
`autoInsertNoneItem` requires setting `none` too.

FIX: Make category-drop search subcategories (#25817) 
Subcategories were not returned when lazy loaded categories are enabled.
This commit implements the old behavior which displayed only top level
categories when there was no search term, but when there was one, it
searched subcategories too.

This commit also removes the client-side ordering of categories, because
the results are already ordered on the server-side.

FIX: Set allowUncategorized SelectKit option (#25440) 
CategoryRow component uses allowUncategorized SelectKit option to
decide whether to show the "Uncategorized" category or not. This was

DEV: implements category-row as a glimmer template (#25223) 
This code introduces code duplication but category dropdown are a common performance area and we expect that having category rows as a glimmer template will improve performance when hundred of rows are rendered.

In the future we should investigate creating a base select-row component using glimmer to ease the migration.

FIX: Adding form template to category dropdown can some times be empty (#25066) 
Why this change?

A system test which was testing our ability to add a form template to a
category was flaky. This turned out to be a client side bug where the
`FormTemplateChooser` dropdown may not display any dropdown options if
the ajax request to fetch the categories form template has not been
completed when the dropdown is opened.

What does this change do?

Make use of select-kit's `triggerSearch` function to fetch the records
which will properly rerender the dropdown options.

can result in requests to the server.

FIX: category selectors for lazy loaded categories (#24533) 
A lot of work has been put in the select kits used for selecting
categories: CategorySelector, CategoryChooser, CategoryDrop, however
they still do not work as expected when these selectors already have
values set, because the category were still looked up in the list of
categories stored on the client-side Categrories.list().

This PR fixes that by looking up the categories when the selector is
initialized. This required altering the /categories/find.json endpoint
to accept a list of IDs that need to be looked up. The API is called
using Category.asyncFindByIds on the client-side.

CategorySelector was also updated to receive a list of category IDs as
attribute, instead of the list of categories, because the list of
categories may have not been loaded.

During this development, I noticed that SiteCategorySerializer did not
serializer all fields (such as permission and notification_level)
which are not a property of category, but a property of the relationship
between users and categories. To make this more efficient, the
preload_user_fields! method was implemented that can be used to
preload these attributes for a user and a list of categories.

DEV: Consolidate and update jsconfig, and add types packages (#23824) 
These updates significantly improve IDE tooling for imports across the Discourse core codebase, and also for framework packages. The `@types/ember-*` packages are a temporary solution until we get onto Ember 5, which ships its types in the main package.

The previous approach of having jsconfig files in each package directory did work, but once you start adding all the possible interlinks between them, we hit the file count limit of VSCode's tooling (because it counts every file for every jsconfig its referenced in). Having one file at the root means that a single file can apply to all core packages and plugins.

Long-term, to get the same functionality for all themes/plugins, we may need to look at building/publishing a Discourse types package which can be added to theme/plugin package.json files for development purposes.

DEV: Rename I18n imports to discourse-i18n (#23915) 
As of #23867 this is now a real package, so updating the imports to
use the real package name, rather than relying on the alias. The
name change in the package name is because `I18n` is not a valid
name as NPM packages must be all lowercase.

This commit also introduces an eslint rule to prevent importing from
the old I18n path.

For themes/plugins, the old 'i18n' name remains functional.

FEATURE: Use async search for category dropdowns (#23774) 
This commit introduces a new endpoint to search categories and uses it
instead of the categories map that is preloaded using SiteSerializer.

This feature is enabled only when the hidden site setting
lazy_load_categories is enabled and should be used only on sites with

DEV: Raise an error in test env when I18n interpolate argument is missing (#23527) 
Why this change?

We have been bitten by bugs where tests are not catching missing
interpolate argument in our client side code because the JavaScript
tests are also using `I18n.translate` to assert that the right message
is shown. Before this change, `I18n.interpolate` will just replace the
missing interpolation argument in the final translation with some
placeholder. As a result, we ended up comparing a broken translation
with another broken translation in the test environment.

Why does this change do?

This change introduces the `I18n.testing` property which when set to
`true` will cause `I18n.translate` to throw an error when an interpolate
argument is missing. With this commit, we also set `I18n.testing = true`
when running qunit acceptance test.

DEV: Remove OpenComposer mixin and refactor related logic (#23015) 
The OpenComposer mixin comes from a time before we had a composer service. As well as being a general cleanup/refactor, this commit aims to removes interlinking between composer APIs and the discovery-related controllers which are being removed as part of #22622.

In summary, this commit:
- Removes OpenComposer mixin
- Adds and updates composer service APIs to support everything that `openComposer` did
- Updates consumers to call the composer service directly, instead of relying on the mixin (either directly, or via a route-action which bubbled up to some parent)
- Deprecates composer-related methods on `DiscourseRoute` and on the application route

DEV: Clean up package.json files (#22349) 
Motivation: aligning us with JS/Ember practices (runtime deps in `dependencies`, build/dev-time deps in `devDependencies`)

1. Move deps to devDeps where applicable (rule of thumb: it's a devDep unless it's required at runtime by the rails app or it's imported in the addon's code)
2. Remove unused dependencies and add missing ones (in addons)
3. Remove empty `repository` fields
4. Move `engines` and `ember` fields to the bottom

While still in ember-cli new app blueprint, I don't think this package does much for us. It has support for older things like bower and npm-shrinkwrap, but doesn't support checking yarn.lock and doesn't necessarily work well with our project structure.

FEATURE: Allow users to manually track threads without replying (#22100) 
This commit adds a tracking dropdown to each individual thread, similar to topics,
that allows the user to change the notification level for a thread manually. Previously
the user had to reply to a thread to track it and see unread indicators.

Since the user can now manually track threads, the thread index has also been changed
to only show threads that the user is a member of, rather than threads that they had sent
messages in.

Unread indicators also respect the notification level -- Normal level thread tracking
will not show unread indicators in the UI when new messages are sent in the thread.

A11Y: Improve select-kit accessibility (#21400) 
This improves keyboard navigation in and out of select-kit components.

The improvements include:

- `Tab` will now dismiss the dropdown once the active element is outside
the select-kit element
- pressing `Escape` will not bubble, this is most noticeable in the
composer, pressing `Esc` there now when a dropdown is expanded will not
dismiss the composer
- `Shift+Tab` will also dismiss the dropdown once focus is outside it

A11Y: select kit close on focus out (#21274) 
When navigating with the keyboard, the select-kit would not close when
focus was moved to an element outside of the body. For example, when
navigating via Tab or Shift+Tab, once the end (or beginning) of the list
was reached, focus would move out of the SK element, but the SK itself
would stay visible.

Switching from a click event to a focusout event solves the issue and
covers both mouse and keyboard navigation.

Non-markdown tags weren't being escaped in chat excerpts. This could be
triggered by editing a chat message containing a tag (self XSS), or by
replying to a chat message with a tag (XSS).

FIX: prevents mouseover to gain focus on sk row (#20550) 
This was causing unattended effects on other elements. eg: the select-kit header input could lose focus when the list filtered would change size and cause the cursor to be positioned over a row.
